Rowan Tree Silkies & Fairy Silkies™ are 100% silk with hand rolled hems. Dyed with food grade, non-toxic dyes.
Our playsilks are hand dyed ~ this results in rich hued, one of a kind toys ~ variations in colour, shading and coverage are normal and part of the beauty of the silkies.
Silkies are simple. In a world of bells and whistles and one-trick toys, they float on a whisper of possibility, inviting children to touch their softness and experiment with movement and colour, letting their minds
and bodies take the lead. They are an open ended, child directed toy with enormous play value ~ their only limit is the limitless imagination of a child!

One of our favourite moments is when we give a play
silk to a child who has never played with one before. Their eyes light up and the wheels start turning and within moments they are deep in play. Fabulous for play therapy and kids with disabilities, too!
For infants, a silkie makes a wonderful blanket for tummy or nap time; a peek-a-boo cover, a soft lovey to clutch and cuddle, a river flowing over their skin, a fluttering butterfly hanging in the breeze.... For toddlers they become wading pools and superhero capes, fairy wings, dog leashes, dresses, tents, doll slings and bedding, accessories for dancing, nests for napping... and older children enjoy them for all these uses and much more as their imaginations grow to see the world of possibilities in a simple toy.

We offer a variety of sizes and formats.
We always have silk in stock in our Etsy Shop.
Our standard Playsilks are 35 x 35" square
and can be dyed in almost any color or combination of colors.
One of our most popular items is the set of 6 35" playsilks in the Rainbow Palette (see Palettes below).
Fairy Silkies™ are perfect for church or temple, waiting rooms and car rides, small enough to carry in a purse or diaper bag, but big, big fun! They are 11 x 11" and can be dyed just like their bigger friends.
They are wonderful for infants and toddlers
~ fairy blankets, dolly diapers, matching colors, counting...
We also create Fairy Silkie™ sets which include 6 silkies in one 
of our colour Palettes.
Our Canopy sized silks are a delight! Use them for tents or playstand canopies~ or even as a beach sarong for mom! Measuring 4 x 6', these big silkies are great to have around and can be dyed to order.
We occasionally stock other sizes: . 8 x 54"; 11 x 60" and 22" square. We can always special order sizes and custom dye.
Our newest member of the playsilk family is the Twirligig™. 
Hand dyed silk streamer(s) flow from a coordinating hand painted wooden wand. Long enough for maximum fun (11 x 60", with the option to add more streamers) but wide enough to be safe and prevent tangling and knotting. Securely attached to move freely on the wand for added flexibility and safety.
Standard Palettes: (L - R) Mother Earth; Rainbow, Watercolour, Landscape
Seasonal Palettes and Three Tone Palettes also available. 
Silkie Care: Handwash with a bit of dish soap and hang to dry.
Prolonged sun exposure may dull the colours and damage the silk.
Wash individually: colours are set to last,
but there m>ay be some bleeding in the first few washes.
To prolong the life of your silkies, wash only as needed.
Do not wring when wet~ silk is one of the world's strongest fibers when dry,
but weak when wet.
